Enjoy your own Aftenoon Tea with these Hayward & Padgett Scones. David Hayward & Wayne Padgett started making scones in 1987 in South Yorkshire & today the company are one of the top scones producers in the UK, supplying many London hotels for their Afternoon Teas. Simply defrost and enjoy, or warm gently & serve "the traditional English way" with clotted cream and jam or curd. Anna Russell (7th Duchess of Bedford) invented the concept of Afternoon Tea around 1840. Anna felt the time between a light lunch and a late dinner was too long so requested tea, bread, scones, butter and cake in her luxurious boudoir. Soon the trend grew as she socialised with friends and the event become fashionable within the upper classes. Scones were originally an oat based griddle cakes from Scotland, but eventually evolved into the floury lighter scones we know today. Scones are available to buy from our shop in Gothenburg.
